Sweet Recipe: Gulab Jamun

Ingredients

  • Chhana (1 cup)
  • All-purpose flour (1 tablespoon)
  • Sugar (1.25 cups)
  • Cardamom (2)
  • Cinnamon (2 sticks)
  • Bay leaf (1)
  • Rose water (1 tablespoon)
  • Ghee (1 tablespoon)
  • Oil (for frying)

Method

  1. First, make chhana from 1 liter of milk. You can find the chhana recipe here.
  2. To make the sugar syrup, cook the sugar with 1 glass (250 ml) of water along with the cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaf, and rose water until the sugar dissolves completely. Transfer it to a bowl.
  3. For the sweets, knead the chhana, flour, and 1 tablespoon of ghee very well. Make sure there are no lumps left. Shape the mixture into small balls.
  4. Heat oil in a pot and fry the sweets over medium heat. If you deep-fry them, they will float to the top within a few minutes. Keep frying until they are golden brown.
  5. Once fried, soak the sweets in the sugar syrup for at least 1 hour. Then serve.
