- Turmeric powder (1 teaspoon)
- Chili powder (1 teaspoon)
- Cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
- Coriander powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Garam masala powder (1 teaspoon)
- Cardamom (4)
- Cinnamon (4 pieces)
- Cloves (4)
- Bay leaves (2)
- Star anise (1, optional)
- Salt (to taste)
- Green chilies (4–5)
- Chopped onion (1 cup)
- Chopped cilantro (1 teaspoon)
- Ginger paste (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic paste (1 teaspoon)
- Oil (1/2 cup)
- Roasted cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
Method
- Mix the beef mince with ginger paste, garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, chili powder, and half of the salt. Add chopped cilantro and chopped green chilies and mix very well. Shape the mince into small balls. Heat enough oil in a pot and deep-fry the meatballs until browned. Set them aside.
- In another pot, heat oil and add chopped onion. When the onion softens slightly, add cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, star anise, turmeric, and the remaining ginger paste, garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, chili powder, and salt. Watch that the spices do not burn; add a little water if needed. When the masala is fried, add the fried koftas and cook for another 5–7 minutes. Sprinkle roasted cumin powder over the top before serving.
