Ingredients
- Beef (1 kg)
- Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Chili powder (1 teaspoon)
- Cumin powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Coriander powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Garam masala powder (1 teaspoon)
- Panch phoron (1 teaspoon)
- Cardamom (2)
- Cinnamon (2 pieces)
- Cloves (2)
- Bay leaf (1)
- Dried chilies (3)
- Chopped onion (1 cup)
- Ginger paste (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic paste (1 teaspoon)
- Mustard oil (1/2 cup)
- Roasted cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
- Mango pickle (1 tablespoon)
- Chopped ginger (1 teaspoon)
Method
- First, wash the beef and cut it into medium-sized pieces.
- Heat mustard oil in a pot. Add the chopped onion and cook until slightly softened. Then add turmeric powder, chili powder, panch phoron, cumin powder, coriander powder, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger-garlic paste, cloves, bay leaf, and dried chilies. Stir well and add a little water to fry the spices.
- Once the spices are fried, add the beef and stir well. Keep the heat at medium. Add 1 cup of hot water, stir, and cover. Stir every 10 minutes until the beef is fully cooked. Season with salt to taste. When the beef is tender and the water has mostly evaporated, add garam masala powder, roasted cumin powder, and chopped ginger. Cook for another 2–3 minutes. At this stage you can add 1 tablespoon of mango pickle, though it is optional. The pickle does make the flavor even better.
- Your achari beef bhuna is ready. It is wonderful with rice, khichuri, or paratha.
