Beef Stew
This is my mother's recipe — my favorite beef dish. Served hot with paratha, it feels like heaven on a plate. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients
- Beef (1 kg)
- Cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
- Whole dried chilies (8–10)
- Coriander powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Garam masala powder (1 teaspoon)
- Cardamom (4)
- Cinnamon (4 pieces)
- Cloves (4)
- Bay leaves (2)
- Star anise (1, optional)
- Salt (to taste)
- Chopped onion (1 cup)
- Ginger paste (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic paste (1 teaspoon)
- Oil (1/2 cup)
- Roasted cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
Method
- Cut the beef into small pieces. Lightly pound the meat with a meat mallet. If you do not have one, you can pound it with a mortar pestle or any heavy object. Marinate the beef with all the spices except onion and roasted cumin powder for 1 hour.
- Heat oil in a pot. When the oil is hot, add the marinated beef mixture. Cook over medium heat. You do not need to add extra water at first; the beef will release its own juices and cook in them. If the liquid dries up before the beef is tender, add a little water.
- When the beef is cooked and the liquid has evaporated, sprinkle roasted cumin powder over the top and serve hot with paratha.
