Dorado Fish Dopeyaja

Bengalis are crazy about fish. Those of us living abroad surely miss fresh fish the way I do. Local fish is available frozen at Bangladeshi shops, but fresh fish usually means local varieties. Here is how to cook dorado fish dopeyaja in a Bengali style.

Dorado Fish Dopeyaja

Ingredients

  • Dorado fish (1 medium)
  • Tomato (3–4)
  • Onion (1 cup)
  • Turmeric powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Chili powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Scallions (for serving)
  • Cilantro (for serving)

Method

  1. First, scale and wash the fish, cut it into pieces, rub lightly with turmeric, and shallow-fry. Dorado cooks quickly, so 1–2 minutes of frying is enough.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onion. When the onion softens, add diced tomato, turmeric, chili powder, and salt, and fry the spices until the tomato breaks down. Add the fried fish and cook for about five minutes. Just before serving, scatter chopped scallions and cilantro on top.
